The Head and the Heart: 1 Tip Now
We all know that students learn best when they are not only mentally stimulated, but also when their social and emotional needs are being tended to. But in the virtual world, how can we ensure that we are caring for both their heads and their hearts?
Think about engagement and connection as separate, albeit related, parts of your class. Engagement is about stimulating attention. Think videos, visuals, or polls. Connection gives space to your students and lets them know that they matter. Think open equitable conversation, check-ins, and games. And, of course, some activities further both engagement and connection!
What’s important is that we consider heads AND hearts. And make a plan for both.
